I've been reading way back in this forum looking for hints on a nice optic for an 18" RFB. Lots of people seem to be using optics with BDC designed for 5.56, not 7.62. How similar (or different) are their trajectories?

I chatted with on-line specialists at Optics Planet and was told that no one makes a 1-4 or 1-6 optic with BDC for 7.62. She recommended a fixed ACOG with 7.62 BDC.

I was offered a very good price on the Leupold VX-6 1-6 with CMR2 reticle but the BDC is for 5.56. Should I care? I can't see myself shooting it beyond 400 yards very much, probably 200-300 typically.

Now, I know that I can customize and special order this model for exactly the cartridge I want but I've yet to receive the rifle much less had time to work up a load that it likes. So I'll save the customizing for another day.

But until then, I need a starter scope and it would be nice to have one that knows the 7.62 round. Nice, but not necessary. Are any of you using an optic with 7.62 NATO BDC?

For my 300 BLK rifle, there are 7.62x39 BDC optics that are "close enough". I'm not aware of any such for 7.62 NATO.

So, I guess the deal is, should I get some generic 1-4 or 1-6 with tick-marks on the reticle and figure it out myself? Do most people care about BDC at all?
