FaxonNathan,

Considering that we're just two weeks away from Christmas 2015, can we plan on placing one/more of the following Faxon Firearms goodies under the Christmas tree?:

1, ARAK-21 Upper Receiver-6.5mm Grendel Barrel Assembly;

2, ARAK-31 Upper Receiver-6.5mm Creedmoor Barrel Assembly;

3, Bullpup Lower for the ARAK-21/ARAK-31.

I called Faxon Firearms, today, to inquire about their upcoming ARAK-31, to be chambered in .308/7.62x51mm NATO and 6.5mm Creedmoor (http://www.outdoorhub.com/news/2015/01/26/faxon-firearms-brings-arak-platform-30-cal-world/), as well as the long-rumored Bullpup Lower.

As Bob Faxon was not available, I spoke with "Jay." Jay advised that both the ARAK-31 and the Bullpup Lower presently are on hold, and couldn't offer a definite date when they might be released to our shooting world. However, Jay was quite familiar with the ARAK-31 design and offered some helpful input:

The ARAK-31 Bolt continues the radiused-lug design presently offered on the ARAK-21 Bolt, for improved strength, and the ARAK-31 Bolt is proportionately larger. When asked how the ARAK-31 breech design compared to the Armalite AR-10 and DPMS LR-308, referencing short-action magnum conversions by SSK Industries (http://sskindustries.com/ar-10/) and Accuracy Systems (www.accuracysystemsinc.com/), he said that the ARAK-31 design compares very favorably with those designs, and would be at least as strong as either of those designs. When asked if the ARAK-31 breech design would allow for converting to one of the short-action magnum cartridges, such as the 6.5mm SAUM, he answered that he saw no problem with that.

I thanked him for his helpful input.

. . . The AR-15 electronic trigger that was shown a few months ago at the shot show isn't available yet. I would positively go that route if it was available. . . .

Are you referring to Wave of the future: Electro-mechanical tirgger (http://youtu.be/gzfQFRzZXPw) --- ". . . an electronic signal that actually releases the trigger."

"ARAK-31 Upper compatible with LR-308 DPMS Lower Receivers." --- (http://www.faxonfirearms.com/p/116/arak).

Now, if the micro-switch of the planned Civilian Model (one shot, per trigger pull) of Michael's Machines Electro-mechanical trigger can be relocated, forward, and mounted to a Picatinny Rail-mounted Pistol Grip on the bottom of the handguard of the Faxon Firearms ARAK-31 Upper Receiver-20" Barrel Assembly, one need only mount a buttplate-buttpad to the rear of the DPMS LR-308 Lower Receiver to effect an after-a-fashion fire-by-wire .308 action-length Bullpup.

Could this be a potential gamechanger?  A $55 buffertube at 3.5in may allow a LOP short enough to use a standard DI upper rather than expensive Faxon bufferless uppers.
