Just finished this weekend.

ASG Steyr AUG A2 fits like a glove around the Marlin 795.  Probably about 8 hours total on the project, most of which was spent boring out the plastic front end that slips over the barrel.  The ASG plastic is nice but they went el cheapo on the foregrip and it's pivot.

It weighs 5lbs without the sight.  Very nice feel and very light weight.

Wow, that looks fantastic!  The AUG was my first lust.  Great work!

Great job!

How'd you handle the mag?

Thanks.  I had to remove the AUG mag release lever and open up the hole left when the AUG mag release was removed.  The 795 magazine sits right at the back of the hole where the AUG mag inserts and that makes the 795 release hard to get to with my index finger.  Removing the AUG mag release lever and opening up that hole allows me to reach up there to release the 795 mag.  I had done something similar with the P90.  I will see if I can snap a picture of it tonight.

I really hate the 795 mag release and have been looking into extensions for it but there isn't but a couple of concepts out there and certainly not worth the time or effort.  I look at it this way, I would rather have to go digging for the mag release on a 795 bullpup thatn to have to fill the tube mag on a marlin 60 bullpup (and I have one too).

Will the Plinker series 22 magazines fit the Marlin? It has been said that the Mossy is a cheaper knock-off of the Model 60 and 795. The AR-ish magazine used in the horrendously ugly Mossy AR want-to-be (a Plinker in cheap clothes) might work with the 795 using the AUG mag release. Also, the S&W 15-22 mags might also be a candidate utilizing the existing AUG mag release. Or a plastic AR mag with a 795 mag buried inside. I hear good things about the ProMag.
