I just got off the phone with IWI. They told me that the 5.45 conversion kit "has been CANCELED"! Shocked
I had boght ammo for this already and love that soft recoiling caliber; I was so upest Angry .
I can't be on the net very often but felt I needed to notify you guys here before too many people invest in ammo for a kit that may never be available.
I can only hope that perhaps someone on here with some influance can persuade IWI to produce the kit.

Did they give a reason why?

Also, clearly the solution to your problem is to buy an AK-74!  Evil

Isn't there a country fielding a 5.45 Tavor already though? So I guess 5.45 was just a marketing ploy?  Sad

For as much as I like the Tavor this sure does reek of false advertising just like the left handed conversion that was suppose to be performed on a user level.  Angry

Maybe wait for confirmation from IWI before we release the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

I saw this about a year ago on the Firearm Blog about Ukraine making 5.45x39 Tavors:

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2012/10/15/ukraine-manufacturing-tavor-in-5-45x39mm/

I was really looking forward to getting one of the 5.45 conversions.

Or better yet I'll call them in the morning and post their response.

Probably an issue with magazines.

Another broken promise by another Gen3 gun manufacturer.

I do hear they are doing R&D on 300blk barrels.

5.45 probably fell through because of market demand. Probably no countries using 5.45 signed on.

Veeper,if you want verification, just call them 717-695-2081. The women there said they had "problems" with them so they are being canceled. Me,I personally don't believe they had "problems" I believe it was a decision to throw the 5.45 guys under the bus in favor of the more numerous people wanting the 300Blackout. She said they are looking into devloping the Blackout; that stinks of a simple corp./management decision at the expense of their integrity; and NOT a mechanial issiue. Noting against the Blackout but I and many others where led to believe, before we laid out good money, that the the system could support the 5.45!
On a side note, she said the 9mm kits should get to IWI by mid week. In other words, they still don't have them but if all go's well,I imagine they'll be shipping perhaps January. Me,don't need one,my AUG has a 9mm kit I use, just figured I'd pass on the intel to my fellow bullpupers.

Since we're all just speculating ...

I have no doubt this is a corporate decision and it might be that the problem is getting kits from Israel. If they have large military contracts for the 5.45 on order from other countries that need to be filled then they're going to take care of those contracts first. Israel is a small country that needs all the income and allies they can get. Our market in the US is relatively small at the moment and will be for quite a while ...

The hardest part about R&D for 300BLK at military grade standards is the 20,000 rounds it will take to pass QA. 300 BLK is hard to find these days.

On the other hand, it's cheaper for IWI to make a 300BLK version since you won't have to change out the bolt or adapt the magazine well for a different magazine. All that needs to be done is swap the barrel and maybe the recoil spring.

If IWI will not let you swap bolts to left hand due to "headspace" issues with a new bolt on an existing barrel, one would think they would also think they would not allow you to but a new barrel (300BLK) on an existing bolt due to "headspace" issues, so it would either have to be a factory conversion   Angry  or a new bolt and new barrel kit. Just speculation on my part.

Michael Kassnar is out of the office this week, but when he gets back I will give him a call and see if he has any comment on this.

Until then I wouldn't freak out too much- a lot of times customer service reps don't have the full story.

Never forget the influence of American Corp. lawyers. I would bet that this whole headspace when going from right to left hand issue is the result some attorney advising that in the US, liability when sued is the governing factor.

I would agree 110% on this.

Lawsuits, and thus lawyers and liability insurance drive much of every industry these days.

The reason is simple.
Why would they want to put their name on something that won't function???

5.45x39 US made magazines are obviously not up to the standards IWI requires.
A bad magazine design poisons the entire 5.45x39 kit.

Logically one would see that the magazine issue is why IWI won't sell the 5.45 kits in the US.

The problem with the 5.45x39 kits is that we have been unable to find a US made magazine that works to IWI/IDF standards and we must use a mag made in the US.

Any suggestions on where to find a reliable 5.45 mag will be greatly appreciated.
