Here is a smoking deal on a Blackhawk 36" x 13" case with molle webbing inside for attaching organizational stuff or securing guns. It is $15 + shipping. Note: the pouches and rifle in the pics do not come with it. Only the case and a strap to secure the gun. It seemed some people have complained it didn't come with pouches even though it states that in the description.

I got together with some friends and ordered 10 of them. It really breaks down the shipping when you order more than one.

I snagged three of them. They came today, very nice indeed!

Sure, they come only with two retention straps and a muzzle holder, but.....for $15 bucks a pop...yikes, could not resist.

Blackhawk sells retention straps for $9 a pop, pricey? Sure.

But, for FAR, FAR less than you will spend on a LaRue Covert, you get a pretty darn nice bag.

Well I decided to go with a Wilson Tennis racquet bag. True I do not have much padding but mine does fit in there with the EOTech mounted and a 20 round mag.
I paid $14.95 at Walmart for it and it's so obviously Wilson that no one would notice it. It can hold 2 spare mags in the outside pocket.
More padding would be better but this is a tough rifle and I'm careful, so it should be ok.

Here is the one I got, only mine is blue.

And the satisfaction of knowing that a Laotian daycare facility meticulously crafted it till 2AM for 20 cents an hour  Grin

I got one of the Blackhawk discreet cases for my birthday (I got two, actually...one will be for my wife's Sig 516 when that comes in, broken down into upper and lower), and my SAR-16L fits snugly.  I've got to remove the light on the side rail, as well as the Vortex SPARC (another b'day present I got two of...the other going to the 516 again).  A QD mount for the sight would be nice, but not essential.  The pocket on the front of the case is ~12" deep, and not padded.  It'll hold a couple of 30 round magazines easily, but anything thicker like a light or a sight will probably start printing (a good place for the sight's Allen wrench though).  I haven't tried loading the Tavor with a magazine in place, but since I've got to remove the other stuff that's not really a priority for me.  Those of you with 18" barrels might have a tough time fitting yours in one of these cases, though it might fit with a little stretching at the ends.  Overall the case is nice, with fairly stiff foam on the front and back, as well as in the divider (the divider also attaches to the inside via Velcro, so you can remove it if you're only packing one rifle without breaking it down).  This case also makes for easier (and more discreet) transport to/from the range than a larger, heavier Pelican-type hard case.  This would be too light for airline travel though, even with the zippers that accept a lock.

Guys, those $15 Lucky Gunner Blackhawk case deal is pretty sweet. Got two of them and they hold my TAVOR perfectly. If you want to add more components you can and at only $15 a pop you have a very nice case for significantly less than the LaRue covert. They are a larger than the LaRue Coverts though.

I came across this and thought it would make a great "discreet" case.

Just wanted to share my thoughts on the UTG Alpha Battle Carrier.

After reading the excellent review from genStrat, I decided to grab one.

I was particularly interested in the Quick Draw feature.

My Tavor is a 16" with a Aimpoint T1 with an American Defense Riser(true AR cowitness)

It fits in the bag in the "Quick Draw" configuration well enough with the IWI 30rd mag.

An issue I was having with the quick draw setup is that the Tavor's bulky butt stock sat too low using the Velcro strip it comes with and put pressure on the zipper near the Quick Pull strap at the bottom.  That pressure kept me from being able to rip it open consistently, and sometimes kept me from ripping it open at all.

My solution was to get some heavy duty Velcro from Home Depot and add a strip a inch or two higher than the strip it comes with at the top(widest side) of the barrel pocket.  This seems to work out well.  I am going to practice with it like this and if I end up feeling comfortable and it opens reliably I will probably have the Velcro stitched in to make it more secure.

Hope this helps anyone that is interested in the UTG for the Quick Draw.

Wharf,

I was looking at the LaRue site at the bag you have and it says the outside demensions of the latest version make it 27.5" in length.  I have a 18" tavor that is 27 5/8 in length.  I know it would at least push on the sides... But do you think it would fit?

Thanks for your thoughts...

Looks like the perfect Tavor bag.

I also briefly tried the quick draw feature of the UTG bag and didn't find it very easy. I have the 511 select carry for sub guns and it works well. I thought about just sticking velcro to the stock to hold it in place in the bag to avoid having to use the strap.

Updated list of case options for the Tavor.
A special thanks to the many contributors!
If you don't see one you have or have found, please let me know and I will include it in the list.

This doesn't include all possible cases. It does include most with dimensions around 30 inches wide by 13 inches high.

  • 27 x 8.5 x 3.75 - 16.5 inch Tavor without optic/scope, light and magazine
  • 27 x 10 x 3.75 - 16.5 inch Tavor with 30 round magazine and no optic/scope or light
  • 28.5 x 8.5 x 3.75 - 18 inch Tavor without optic/scope, light and magazine

The widest part of the Tavor (non-IDF in the area of the charging handle and side rail) is approximately 2.5 inches without the charging handle. The charging handle adds approximately 1 3/8 inches. The space allowed for the width in the shipping box is 3.75 inches. Cases with less than 3.75 inches inside width may cause pressure on the charging handle and bulging of the case.

The height of a Tavor equipped with a 20 round magazine remains at 8.5 inches due to the grip and guard around the trigger.

A case width of 28 inches will handle the Tavor SAR 16.5, while a 30 inch case is likely required for the 18 inch variant. It would also appear that a height of 12 inches is a good minimum for a Tavor with attached optic/scope and no magazine.

In the continued search for a good case, I have found that it may be practical to acquire two cases:
  • Discreet on body carry; i.e. backpack or similar small footprint nondescript format
  • Handle trips to ranges and transport for real life experiences while maintaining a discreet profile and appearance

I am still leaning towards the Sert Tactical Carbine Rifle Case (30 inch) as the case for trips to ranges and transport requiring more gear. I have purchased the 30 inch UTG Alpha Battle Carrier from Leapers, but still like the Covrt M4 from 5.11 (see the video) and the Sneaky Bag (see the video) for the discreet body carry role.

UPDATE:
  • The case names are links to web pages with more information.
  • Additional forum links are provided below to related cases, bags and topics.
  • Review dimensions before buying - most dimensions are outside measurements, not inside.
  • Look for padding (closed cell foam) and plastic or hard inserts for protection and prevention of printing.
  • I don't have any business connection to any of the listed bags or their manufacturers.
  • I own the UTG Alpha Battle Carrier Sling Pack 30". I do not own any other listed products.

  Hi Folks
This is an important subject to most of us and I'm very thankfull to genStrat for providing all this info. to us.
Brian from Homeland Guns will be selling us our 1st TAVOR this week and another one very shortly we hope.
My wife and I believe that execsizing descretion during transportation of our firearms is very important,so she found this case that might satify our needs.
Wilson Hope 3 Pack (Pink ?)
Advertised as 28.75'' long, 5'' thick or deep and 13.5'' high for about 34.00
This seems to big enough but not to big to fill the bill for what we are looking for.

So I was in target a few months ago and saw the bag maleante first suggested:
http://bullpupforum.com/index.php?topic=2739.msg23949#msg23949
On sale for $12.99.  Tried it out and the Tavor fit even with a fairly bulky optic (SRS),  there was even enough room for a spare mag.  However, there was some printing. especially with a bulky light in the side-rail.

I went a fabric store and got 1/4" and 1&1/4 thick piece of foam for about $4.00.  I turned the tennis bag inside out and cut the thin foam to fit it. I used some silicon gel to seal the foam onto the bag. Smelled a little funky for about a week though.  Tongue
I also cut a section of the thicker foam to act as a hold and support for the charging handle and forend/barrel and silicon-glued it onto the thin foam.

It prints much less. and without a light mounted on the side it doesnt at all.

Total cost:  < $20.00
Total work time: < 1 hr

Ok, not exactly the slickest setup, wish I had gotten black or grey foam, but noone ever sees inside it anyway. And obviously it wouldn't be convenient to take to the range, there's barely any spare room.  Just a very affordable discrete option.

Wish there was a "thanks" button like on FN!  Awesome work genStrat!

Another big thumbs up to genStrat.

I'm not sure the tennis bag solution will work for me. When I head out to shoot, I'm in boots, dark canvas pants, and tac shirt (not white shorts, tennis shoes, and sweat band)!  When I lived in an apartment or building where I had to get on elevator though, the tennis bag would have been a good idea.

Just a quick update on my UTG Alpha Battle Carrier.  It broke.  The zipper ripped off while trying to use the quick pull.  It was single stitched.  Pretty disappointed.
