Just wondering if any of you have any experience, or have heard anything, regarding how the Tavor runs suppressed.  I am interested in getting one and running it with a suppressor for the ever popular home defense gun, and also just for a quieter gun at the range or when shooting out in private property where you still want to be considerate of the neighbors (or said friend's wife & family in the house).

I know some guns have had issues being run with sound suppressors.  I was curious if there were any considerations with the Tavor.  Have any of you seen or heard anything?

-Cheers

No experience running suppressed here, but I thought I'd put my thoughts on running it suppressed over here as well (copied from the new pictures thread).

Anyone know the length overall with the 18" barrel?
Straight from the Source:
16.5" Barrel = OAL 26-1/8"
18" Barrel = OAL 27-5/8"

Actual barrel length, without flash suppressor.

Here's what I'm planning on doing:

Since the overall length is shown above as 26.125" (and legal OAL is 26") and I want to permanently pin the new Surefire SF3P-556-1/2-28 Flash Hider/Suppressor Adapter (2.67" long), I will have my barrel cut so that after threaded on and pinned, the barrel length will be around 16.375 with the OAL being exactly 26".  With this scenario, they will cut the barrel to around 13.705" (16.375-2.67=13.705).

That's assuming that the 16.5" barrel length is including the flash hider that comes stock on the Tavor.  If it doesn't include that, then the second scenario would come into play.  You'd just have to do whatever you had to to comply with the OAL of 26" and the minimum barrel length of 16".  The other thing that will come into play is you can't have your quick connect be inside the plastic area.  I'll just do what I have to to basically get a clean, flush looking mount of my Surefire Mini Monster on the end of the Tavor.  Unfortunately, I live in Michigan, which is a non-SBR state, so I have to play by the rules Sad

Yup, the Israeli's have definitely suppressed their select fire versions many times.

I might have some suppressor stuff on mine in the next few months here. Buddy just got his permit Cheesy

Hey PressPass, do you know the length from the end of the 16.5" barrel to the gas inlet for the piston? Also, how much hardware is around the gas tube? In other words, does it have a huge gas block just attached to the barrel, or is it clean and simple? Been working on an integral for an AR and wasn't sure how closely the Tavor related. Could probably find all that on google, but figured we could get relevant info on the board.

I'd reccomend taking a look at the dissassembly videos first to see if that image gives you the detail you're looking for.

I could measure mine, just remember that I have an 18.5" barrel for Canadian legal limits.

Cheers!

The Tavor looks like it was meant to be suppressed.

Crap, that means now I might have to buy my wife one for her Tavor (when released).

Nice! Man that looks good.

Out of curiousity, are you right handed? Does that "yoked" mag get in the way of your cheekweld?

What length did you cut the barrel to?  I want mine to look exactly like that with a Surefire suppressor.  That looks great!

This is Canada. We're not allow to cut barrels. That's a 14" CTAR barrel direct from Israel.

Sadly its not my rifle either. But I know the shooter, he is right handed, and he does seem to love mag-couplers so I assume its not a problem for him.

My rifle looks like this:

That's too bad that you can't cut barrels there   Angry  That's still a sweet looking rifle!  What scope is that?  Looks like a Vortex Razor maybe?  Do you like it?

Looking forward to the full report.  I see the TAVOR is gas piston operated.  Wondering what kind of sub-sonic works right out of the box.  Wondering if it is easy to find a balance between "will cycle" yet remain a sub-sonic projectile.

I have read that it is hard to get rid of the sonic boom even with a supressor,  The bullet has a muzzle velocity of 3240 ft./sec and that's way past the sound barrier.  so please explain how to supress it adequately.  That would be really good to know Smiley... and thank you.
