I realized I shoot too much at the nearest indoor range, and bought a 9mm conversion kit for my 5.56 X95.

What sort of top rails do I need to leave them in place when swapping calibers?

I probably want a short rail on the 9mm setup, and long with backup iron sights for 5.56,

Probably AR-15 height on both - the stock setup seems a hair low.

You'll want to look at Midwest Industries or Manticore arms for a top rail. I've been able to remove the barrel with out taking the rail off, it can be a little tricky but it is possible. This is with the factory rail, its the perfect height for me. I imagine the others would work the same.
