That's a good question.

Thoughts anyone?  Isn't it shark week?  Shark tooth?

We've named a bunch of stuff after our company.  LIFe is the acronym.  Could always just call it the RDB LIFe rail, but that seems kind of odd for a gun part.

What are your thoughts, guys and gals?

In honor of Shark Week, I submit "Wobbegong" as a viable candidate for a name.
Though in a more serious train of thought, the handguard reminds me of some design aspects of Isaac Clarke's RIG from Dead Space. Could call it the "R.I.G" for "Rail Integration Guard", but that's just me being a doofy videogame nerd.

Due to the angle cuts, I could see it being called the RDB Raptor Rail / hand guard.  Grin

I feel like you're making fun of me. Otherwise I would be cool with this.

Not poking fun. Im into the RDB too. But you are clearly the most enthusiastic about the RDB here. It seems appropriate, not sure if its a marketable name, but thats up to the OP.

lol - that's some funny stuff.  You guys crack me up.

Some good names in there.  I'm sure we'll pick something similar to one of them, maybe one of those specifically.

On a related note, as promised, here's the prototype pictures.  The 3D printed prototype came out quite well.  We're going to tweak two small things then move forward towards production.  Right now price is looking just under $150 including shipping.  Maybe even a solid discount for pre-orders.

I apologize for not staging this better.  I was just excited to get it on and see how it fit and looked.  Tomorrow I'll try to find time to sand and paint it so it looks better.

You know, it's funny...

I just finished building a custom 11.5" fluted match grade .223 Barrel AR that I cut and crowned myself from a 16" stainless barrel, had it nitrided, put it in an Aero Precision upper and 15" HG over a Form 1 suppressor, all to have the "perfect" .223 SBR AR.

And I like the RDB better with this handguard...  lol

Can't wait to see it after sanding/paint. I'll definitely be down for a preorder if this comes to market.

OK, folks.  The moment you've all been waiting for.  The big reveal on painted and mounted prototype for the Keltec RDB m-lok replacement handguard!

These will be manufactured in 6061-T6 aluminum, with QD holes at the rear 3 o'clock, 6, and 9.  The first batch will be lightly powder coated (like the valve covers on an Audi or BMW) to make the surface slightly grippy without being ugly.   We will make a second batch if sales on the first batch go well anodized smooth coat for those who want a smooth look and want to mount m-lok rail covers for grip instead or under-side fore-grips.

They will be secured in the rear by a tighter tolerance on the mounting pins (you will have to take a plastic or rubber mallet and tap them onto these slots GENTLY - the fit is .002" clearance), and in the front by an included 1/4 inch 8-32 inner THREADED mounting bolt that goes into the gas block while the handguard is off, then 8-32 screws left and right tighten the rail to the block with blue loctite and a 6-32 screw on the BOTTOM locks the rail from vertical movement.  This baby will be MUCH more secure than the factory and hopefully eliminate any POI shift if shooting with a bipod.

That's the details on our handguard.  The first batch is already confirmed order, here in 3-4 weeks.  We are accepting pre-orders.  The retail price is going to be $149 shipped.  The first 20 people who pre-purchase will get them for $129 including shipping.  This offer is also going to be extended to the RDB Facebook forum, so the first 20 from either source get this deal.

We accept Discreet Gift Paypal (NO mention of firearms or parts for the snowflake PP people), regular purchase PP plus 3% for fees, or any major credit card plus 3% for fees.  PM me with your email address for that option so I can generate a secure checkout link.

Without further adieu... pictures!

Oh, and for those asking, the weight of the ORIGINAL RDB rail is 9.5 oz.

The weight of our rail?  5.5 oz.  Yes, 4 oz LESS.

Bear in mind, this does not include the front reinforcement piece.  That's going to be 3 oz by itself, and is used primarily to use the bottom screw to lock the rail from moving vertically.  It may or may not be necessary for you, but it will be included.
