Interesting, Thomas said first they'll release the rifle and then as a kit. And this of course means that to NFA it you won't need another serial number?

Can anyone confirm that IWI will sell the IDF issued round X95 handguard? Last I heard was that they were not going to

I got a message from iwi il CustomerService 2 weeks ago saying yes. Then got a call from iwi US CustomerService letting me know they would be getting them in. Another person on FB also posted the CustomerService email he got saying they are going to get them.

According to the 2018 catalog (https://iwi.us/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/IWI-US-2018-Catalog), the SBR will be available in 5.56 NATO, .300 AAC, and 9mm. Unfortunately, the 300 and 5.56 models will require an optional bolt for full LH functionality.

Did IWI say if the SBR will be available Q1 or later in the year? I only know they said Q1 for the Tavor 7.

I really want one of these.

What length is that 5.56 SBR barrel?  Anything less than 13" is just a novelty.

300blk is then the boss... when is that avail and what barrel length?

From the newest catalog:

With an overall rifle length of just 22.8 inches, the X9SBR has superior
velocity and ballistic capabilities for its size due to the bullpup
configuration and impressive 13 inch barrel. The X95SBR comes with
all the same features as the X95 in addition to the shorter forend, a
13 inch cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel and a modular pistol grip.

OH MY GAWD.   :D  ;D  :o

I'm buying two.

Any info on installing a left-hand bolt?  Does it go back to the factory?  One will have to be a lefty.

So how much weight does this sbr save vs the x95?

Title: Re: x95 SBR confirmed and explained
Post by: DubageL on February 03, 2018, 09:31:37 AM
7.9lbs vs 7.3lbs

Title: Re: x95 SBR confirmed and explained
Post by: pyroxide on February 07, 2018, 12:22:32 PM
The reduction in weight is not as important as the bringing back of the center of gravity as well as less overall length, which is the goal. Helps in home defense or urban warfare situations. I plan to buy one of these to retain short length when a suppressor is used.

Waiting [impatiently] for this to come out. I'm hoping that the 300 Blackout will be available right away. If not, I might get turned off completely.

Looked a one this week at the Great American Sportsmen show, feels like a big pistol.  It is very well balanced and points well.  Would like to shoot it.

I am having my doubts that the SBR will be initially available in .300 Blackout or 9mm. UPC for only the 5.56 NATO is on the web for both Black (XB13SBR) and FDE (XFD13SBR). Nothing about the .300 BO (which I assume the model would be XB13SBR-BLK or XFD13SBR-BLK).

Left-hand bolt option also probably not going to be a thing, either, which would be fine with me since Bullpup Armory sells one for a reasonable price.

I've reached out to IWI-US and haven't gotten a response. All I can say is; prepare to be disappointed, but hope for the best.

I am hoping that this will appear on the web site & at dealers in April along with the 7, & TS12. Lets keep our fingers crossed. Next will also hopefully be the Masada handgun.

Pretty sure that's the IDF model which has been around for awhile. Notice the handguard and full auto feature. I was really hoping that was the civilian model the first time i viewed it.

Did not know it had been around for a while in 300blk (even for the IDF).  To me, I'm just happy that this is proof they have the ability to do the 300blk in a short barrel since the gas system is less flexible in it's placement than say an AR.

So, if they already spent R&D into making it function, and they are selling civi SBR's, and they are selling civi 300blk 16", then I don't see why they would hold back on a civi 300blk SBR

I may be mistaken. I just looked at IWI.net, which is not IWI-US, and didn't see the 300 BLK SBR. Only the 9mm and 5.45x39 SBR.

I would have rather seen a shorter barrel, yet. One that had a hand guard to honey badger a suppressor underneath and a different hand guard. 10-inch barrel with a hand guard that would take a 2" diameter suppressor would have really made my day...no, year...no...decade. And to fulfill my life's purpose, they would have used the advancements of the Tavor 7.

So, if they already spent R&D into making it function, and they are selling civi SBR's, and they are selling civi 300blk 16", then I don't see why they would hold back on a civi 300blk SBR
I really hope you're right. The problem I see is that IWI-US is producing 4 new firearms this year; X95 SBR, Tavor 7, TS12, and the Masada. And they all are supposed to release about the same time, IIRC. Not only that, but the X95 SBR would have 3 different calibers ready to go. Not sure about the Masada, [though I've seen it mentioned on social media a few times] but the Tavor 7 and TS12 have a lot of interest; more than the SBR, so they probably have more of those built. It may be harder for IWI-US to justify producing 3 different calibers immediately.

If IWI-US would come out and say something confirming our hopes, I'll get on here and apologize for creating question.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the left-hand eject bolt option would make things even more complicated. That means they would be making 3 more variants of the X95 SBR. Mine, being in .300 BO and having LH eject would be a bit of a unicorn; which means getting one might be easier or harder, depending on supply/demand.

I'm still waiting on a response from IWI on left hand option to place my order.

If no lefty SBRs are produced, I'll still order and send it back for conversion, I just want confirmation either way.

Here they said 1Q or 2Q of this year.  So hopefully by end of June.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6IrQNYSNPQ

A month or so ago they replied to me on the gram and they said shipping in about another month.    :P

The UPCs are out there and some dealers will already let you order.  I think someone on here already has his order in.

If anyone is interested, I had my X95 (300 BLK) barrel cut to SBR length by a local gunsmith.

The barrel is about as short as you can go with the IWI short foregrip.

I've been to the range once.  With a suppressor (SIG SRD762) attached, the gun cycled fine on normal ammo.  Subsonic ammo wouldn't cycle at all, but after changing the gas block to the 'high gas' setting it fired ten rounds fine.  This is a little different than the experience of the author who reviewed this rifle/caliber on The Truth About Guns website - don't know if it's just the slightly shorter barrel on my rifle or some other factor.  The rifle cycled supersonic ammo - ten rounds - on the 'low gas' setting with no suppressor attached.  I didn't try firing subsonic ammo with no suppressor.

The gunsmith charged $200 for the work.  Maybe I'll run into problems later when I've spent more time with the rifle at the range - worst case I'll have to pick up a barrel from IWI when they become available.

My local class 3 dealer did a short barrel setup like yours on his 5.56 X95, but he ordered the short handguard and top pic rail from IWI.  He said his barrel is now 13 inches long after his machinist cut it down.  Also, he ended up hydro dipping it to make it Marines digital camo pattern.

IWI US teased the SBR on instagram on 9.28.2018.  Wonder if that carries any meaning whatsoever.

I am still waiting and still want it.  But at this point the excitement has faded, will probably just order one and see how I like it.

Does anyone have pictures of the top rail in the 5.56 SBR kits? I want to SBR mine but I want to do it in .300aac and want to make sure I can still adjust the gas.
