Title: 14" AUG barrels
Post by: Home_alone1 on May 19, 2017, 02:05:38 AM

What happened to the 14" aug barrels that were supposed to be made a few years ago ?
Will we ever see any of these ?

We will. Like all things Steyr it will be slow.  Right now it takes time to get FN to do runs of barrels for Steyr.  I saw the guys at the HQ in Alabama a few weeks ago and it it still on the to do list.

The 14" AUG barrel is one of the top items on my list.

Would require the tax stamp though right?

I would instantaneously purchase a factory 14 inch barrel.

At the time of the discussion, Pete said they'd be 14" with a permanently attached muzzle device and 16+" overall.

That's the way to go. Get you Form 1 back and then remove the muzzle device. Because if you already own an AUG and then buy and possess a barrel under 16 inches. In the eyes of the ATF, that could show "intent" and get you in a world of trouble.

Would these be 1x7 or 1x9?

Why not just pin the muzzle device?

I think these will be out once Steyr's 2.5 million expansion is completed.

Before or after they print out a new user's manual that shows how to use and adjust the scope?   :( :o

Is this true?  People buy sub-16" barrels for different weapons everyday for many different rifles to install either their preferred muzzle device or suppressor QD brought up to legal length...pinned or other "permanent" attachment method employed.  My understanding is that "intent" also has to be accompanied with some form of evidence and action.  Is there something different as far as the AUG is concerned?

I would love to have a 14"+Tulip 1:7 barrel for blasting M855.

Hopefully Steyr makes them available.

IF not,
My BIL can chop and rethread a 16" donor barrel on one of the Mazaks to make it 26.1" OAL.

Then it just needs to have the port opened up to 2.4mm....correct?

Don't hold your breath, Pete announced them in November of 2012, over 5 years ago!

Got to order 200 for Steyr to do them. I don't see the demand for that many

Years ago when I imported 150 of them from Austria (factory 14" barrels) it took me over 3 years to sell them @ $599 each.

Of course now I wish I have a few of them tucked away! ;D

I had this same question when I came across a smoking deal on a 14" barrel with rifle sights for my 870.  I contacted the ATF, and received a very nice response advising me I could own both while waiting for the Form 1 to be approved, provided they were stored separately.  I saved the e-mail, bought the barrel, and stored it in Dad's gun cabinet, since he doesn't own an 870.  I figured, as long as I had the e-mail, it might not keep things from getting muddy, but it gave me evidence to support my argument.
